Report: Manchester City now lead race to sign £60m Nuno Mendes

It’s safe to say that another left back will be a priority for Manchester City this summer.

Oleksandr Zinchenko has played well this season, but Benjamin Mendy looks like a shadow of his former self.

There is great competition at right back with Joao Cancelo and Kyle Walker, so Pep Guardiola should be looking for the same on the left.

Now, Calciomercato report that City are suddenly in pole position to sign Sporting left back Nuno Mendes at the end of the season.

The 18-year-old has played a key role in Sporting’s push for the title this term, and looks set for a huge future – a future that will likely be away from Sporting.

City are believed to have an upper hand over other interested clubs because of Pedro Porro, the Spanish right back currently on loan at Sporting from City.

Porro could be thrown into a deal to bring down Mendes’ asking price, as he currently has a €70milion (£60million) release clause.

Mendes is quick and dangerous going forward, whilst signing him serve as a major blow to Premier League rivals Liverpool, who failed with a 2020 move for Mendes according to O Jogo.
