Joao Cancelo has reportedly agreed personal terms over a potential transfer move to Barcelona from Manchester City.
After leaving City back in January to join Bayern Munich on loan, it was reported back in June that the full-back would be leaving the Manchester club on a permanent basis during the current summer transfer window.
Now though, some fresh behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding one club’s efforts to try and take the 29-year-old out of Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Cancelo agrees personal terms with Barcelona
In a recent Twitter post, journalist Rudy Galetti had this to say on the matter.
He said: “#Cancelo is closer than ever to join #Barcelona. Personal terms agreed with the player.
“Talks between clubs are going at a good pace. #FCB want to please Xavi – who strongly asks for the [Portuguese player] – and #MCFC want to part ways with him asap: no issues expected.”
During his time at the Etihad Stadium, the defender has made 154 appearances across all competitions, scoring nine goals and chipping in with 22 assists along the way.
Described as an “outstanding” player by Paul Dickov, Cancelo reportedly fell out of favour with Guardiola back in January and looked to make a move away from the club, which led to him joining Bayern on loan.
After then winning the treble without the right-back in his ranks, the Spaniard revealed that they were so keen to get rid of the player back in January the club would have been willing to sell him to Manchester United, which makes it easy to see why no issues are expected in terms of him making a permanent move away this summer.
With the new Premier League season just a week away from starting, it seems that the full-back may be starting a new chapter in his career with another side looking to regain their league title over the coming months.
