It has been reported that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is interested in signing Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen in January.

This comes from 90 Min after it was revealed in September that the treble-winners were keen on the Dutchman’s signature.

But now, it seems like Pep Guardiola rates Ian Maatsen to such a degree that he would like for him to become a Manchester City player in the January transfer window.

Branded as ‘clever’ by Andy Myers (via Chelsea’s official website), the youngster is regarded as one of the most promising up-and-coming full-backs in the world.

Considering City lack a natural left-back on their books, one can certainly understand why the 21-year-old has caught their eye.

Interestingly, the report has clarified that it seems like Chelsea have triggered the option of a one-year extension in his current contract, tying him down to the club until 2025.

Even so, the Blues are open to the idea of selling Maatsen in the winter transfer window.

The Ian Maatsen move should be a relatively simple one to pull off

Considering Manchester City sold one of their biggest young talents in Cole Palmer in Chelsea, the favour could well be reciprocated in the form of Ian Maatsen, making Pep Guardiola a very happy man in the process.

In addition, Mauricio Pochettino has favoured Levi Colwill as a left-back this season, with Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella at the club’s disposal again.

As a result, City should simply back Guardiola’s eye and get a deal done for the highly-rated talent, who could become a superstar under the decorated coach’s guidance in years to come.
