West Ham United reportedly have Kalvin Phillips on their list of potential transfer targets for the upcoming summer window.
Manchester City saw three players walk away from the Etihad Stadium last summer and join other Premier League clubs, with Raheem Sterling going to Chelsea and Arsenal securing deals for Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
With the next summer window close to opening, a different top-flight side apparently have their eyes on signing another player in Pep Guardiola’s squad.
West Ham have eyes on Phillips
According to a recent report from 90 Min, West Ham see Phillips, as well as Edson Alvarez and Joao Palhinha as potential replacements for Declan Rice this summer and are considering making a bid for the City midfielder.
Since arriving at the Manchester club last summer from Leeds United in a deal worth £45m, the Englishman has found regular minutes hard to come by having just started four of the 21 games he’s featured in across all competitions.
With that in mind, in addition to the fact that the Hammers had tried to sign the midfielder before City got hold of him, it’s easy to see why they believe making a bid for him could be worthwhile.
However, with Pep Guardiola describing the England international as a “fantastic” player and with Phillips saying how eager he is to stay at City and fight for a place in the team, this makes it feel unlikely that West Ham will have much luck finally landing a deal for him.
Moving forward, if City have no interest in selling their midfielder this summer, they should let West Ham know and allow them to focus on going for other potential targets instead.
