Burnley have reportedly made contact over potentially signing Sergio Gomez on loan from Manchester City this summer.

Following the Manchester club’s treble-winning season, the latest summer transfer window has opened for business.

As a result of that, one figure in Pep Guardiola’s squad has already found themselves on the radar of one club that will be taking on the European champions in the Premier League next season.

In a recent Twitter post, journalist Sacha Tavolieri said this on the matter.

He said: “#BurnleyFC again! Contacts took place in order to try a loan move for Sergio #Gomez as the #Clarets coach likes #ManCity‘s left back but for the moment, the Spanish defender prefers to stay & impress Pep during preparation to improve his situation at #MCFC. #twitterclarets.”

City signed the left-back last summer from RSC Anderlecht, where 47 of the 50 appearances he made for the Belgian club came under Vincent Kompany’s management, in a deal worth a reported fee of £11m.

During his time in Belgium, the 22-year-old managed to score seven goals and deliver 15 assists across his 50 appearances in all competitions, which could be why City brought him to England.

Across his debut season at the Etihad Stadium, the Spaniard only started 10 of the 21 games he featured in.

His lack of regular starts at City and the experience he has of playing under Kompany at Anderlecht makes it easy to see why Burnley are apparently interested in bringing Gomez to Turf Moor this summer as they prepare for their upcoming Premier League campaign.

In our view, if Guardiola feels that a move to a top-flight side on loan would be beneficial for the full-back and not be too much of an issue for City in terms of their squad options, this could be a great move for all parties.
