It has been reported that Sheffield United hold an interest in signing James McAtee on loan from Manchester City in the summer.
This comes from journalist Alan Nixon on Patreon, after it was claimed on Sunday that City will block any loan moves for the youngster in the event that Bernardo Silva leaves the club.
While Manchester City might have a firm stance regarding James McAtee and his future in their eyes, Sheffield United would ideally like to bring him back on loan ahead of the following campaign.
Sheffield United aim to sign Manchester City gem James McAtee on loan
Unsurprisingly so, as the 20-year-old, after a rough start for Paul Heckingbottom’s side became a mainstay in the club’s return to the Premier League.
With nine goals and three assists to his name in the Championship, young McAtee certainly made an impression, despite playing in one of the most physically demanding leagues in the world.
So much so that while Tommy Doyle reportedly has his sights set on joining Sheffield United on a permanent basis, the club, who internally believe they may lack the finances to pull off such a deal would rather just sign James McAtee on loan.

Ultimately, the silky midfielder is one of English football’s most sparkling up-and-coming talents.
Manchester City should keep all options open regarding the youngster
On one hand, Manchester City could make the argument that it would help the English midfielder a lot more if he played more senior minutes next season than going out on loan to Sheffield United.
Then again, at the promoted club, the youngster is virtually guaranteed to become a regular starter in the Premier League, which could really assist him in his development going forward.
City should not shut the door on any of these options as at the end of the day, the goal must be to develop McAtee to the extent that he is capable of seriously contending for a starting place at the Etihad Stadium in a year or two.
