Some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding Darko Gyabi’s move from Manchester City to Leeds United.

During the previous summer transfer window, the 19-year-old joined Leeds in a deal worth a reported fee of around £5m.

With a year now having passed since his move to Elland Road, some information has emerged regarding one particular detail about the contract, specifically, the inclusion of a potential buy-back clause.

A recent report from The Athletic said this on the matter.

He said: “Unlike other players who have left City’s academy, Southampton’s Romeo Lavia being one, Gyabi’s contract at Elland Road is not believed to include a buy-back clause giving City the right to re-sign him for a fixed fee.”

Gyabi’s time at Leeds so far

Last season saw the midfielder make just three senior appearances for the Yorkshire club, with one being in the Premier League, which happened to be against Pep Guardiola’s side back in December.

He also played 60 minutes in Leeds’ 2-2 draw against Cardiff City in the third round of the FA Cup, as well as completing the full 90 minutes in their 1-0 defeat to Wolves in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The former City starlet spent most of his time with Leeds’ U21 side, where he made 18 league appearances in total, scoring two goals and delivering three assists.

With the Whites now preparing for their upcoming season in the Championship, this could be the opportunity Gyabi has been looking for to really make a name for himself at Leeds and become a prominent figure in the senior side.

Now that it has been revealed that City don’t have a buy-back clause in the youngster’s contract, their hope now will be that they don’t end up regretting not putting one in last summer, which could end up being the case if he ends up having a successful season next year.
