Southampton have reportedly reignited their interest in signing Manchester City winger, Carlos Borges, this summer.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the south coast club are close to securing a permanent transfer deal for City midfielder, Shea Charles.

Now, it has been revealed that the Saints have their eyes set on signing another one of the Manchester club’s young talents.

A recent report from The Athletic had this to say on the matter.

It said: “Southampton have also revived their interest in another City youngster, Carlos Borges. The south-coast side showed interest in January and have returned again, although a number of Premier League and Bundesliga clubs are also interested.”

The winger has 79 appearances for City’s youth sides under his belt, across which he has scored 55 goals and delivered 42 assists.

Last season saw the 19-year-old find the net 29 times in 33 appearances for the Manchester club, as well as delivering 18 assists, which makes it easy to see why he has found himself on Southampton’s radar.

In terms of potentially leaving City this summer, we feel that given the clear attacking he has, it would be wise for the club to keep hold of Borges rather than see him leave and potentially make a name for himself at a senior level elsewhere.

However, if he is unlikely to get regular game time in Pep Guardiola’s side next season, perhaps loaning him out to somewhere he’d be able to play regularly could be the ideal next step for him and his career.

Moving forward, if this is something the Saints are willing to agree with, it’s definitely something City should consider before the current summer transfer window closes.
