‘Requested info’: Chelsea now really want to sign ‘aggressive’ £57m Man City player – journalist

A claim has been made that Chelsea have enquired about Aymeric Laporte, as his future at Manchester City is uncertain.

This comes from journalist Rudy Galetti while speaking to GiveMeSport about the £57.2 million (Guardian) man’s time at the Etihad Stadium may be coming to an end.

It seems like Chelsea are now trying to discover whether there is an actual possibility for them to sign Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte.

A previous report has indicated that the Spanish international was ‘frustrated’ at City, having fallen right down to the bottom of the pecking order amongst centre-backs and was open to an exit.

Branded as ‘aggressive’ by Eric Garcia via Barça Blaugranes, the 29-year-old started a mere 11 Premier League games last season.

Now, Rudy Galetti has given an insight behind how Chelsea are trying to complete a swoop for Aymeric Laporte from Manchester City.

“Aymeric Laporte is among the names on the list of Chelsea as a possible reinforcement this summer. No talks are ongoing to date. Chelsea’s aim is to strengthen other roles but in the past weeks, the Blues requested info on him.”

Manchester City could consider selling him to the Blues

Much like the case was during the sales of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal, perhaps Manchester City may discover that Chelsea may be the only realistic buyer for Aymeric Laporte.

At the end of the day, the Premier League’s financial power in comparison to other leagues in Europe means even top clubs have started to open up to the prospect of selling players to one another.

Ideally, the treble-winners would likely rather sell a player of Laporte’s quality to another superclub in Europe.

But that may be easier said than done and with how far ahead City are of Chelsea, selling an admittedly world-class defender to them would not pose a threat to their prospects of challenging for any major honours.
