Ally McCoist has heaped praise on Pep Guardiola after Manchester City suffered a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup.
The 61-year-old was speaking about the Spaniard alongside Alan Brazil on talkSPORT.
So, what did Ally McCoist say about Pep Guardiola? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, the Scot praised the 52-year-old for always paying the Carabao Cup respect, when some managers often play a heavily weakened side in the competition.
McCoist said: “Well, the one thing I would say, listen, he might not be too disappointed about not winning the competition, but the one thing you cannot level at him is, he has always shown that particular tournament the upmost respect. Just look at their record in it recently.”

We agree that the £378,846-a-week Guardiola has always done his best to win the Carabao Cup.
However, it does help when Manchester City have a squad with two fantastic options in each position, a luxury most other sides can’t afford.
Guardiola and Manchester City are losing their stranglehold on the Carabao Cup
After an impressive period of dominance in the League Cup – as it is traditionally known – Manchester City are starting to lose their grip on the competition.
The Citizens reigned supreme four times in a row from 2017 to 2021.
However, the last three campaigns have seen Manchester City crash out of the competition early.

Guardiola’s side lost to West Ham in the Fourth Round back in the 2021/22 campaign, before Southampton remarkably knocked Manchester City out in the Quarter-Final last season.
The Saints then ended up finishing bottom of the Premier League.
Now Newcastle have sent Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup in the Third Round, although nobody at the Etihad Stadium will care about that one bit if Guardiola guides the Citizens to another Premier League or UEFA Champions League this season.
