Former Manchester City player Richard Dunne has hailed the club for securing a transfer deal for Julian Alvarez.
City signed the attacker back in the 2022 January transfer window from River Plate for a reported fee of £14m.
His latest appearance saw the World Cup winner come off the bench to score City’s final goal in their 4-0 win over Real Madrid, securing their place in the upcoming Champions League final against Inter Milan.
With the attacker on the verge of winning his first Premier League title and potentially picking up the Champions League and FA Cup at the end of his debut season at the Etihad Stadium, his move to England has been the subject of heavy praise from one former City player.
Dunne praises City’s move for Alvarez

Speaking to Virgin Media Sport after the win over Real, Dunne had this to say about City’s recruitment and their move for Alvarez specifically.
He said: “The whole recruitment, they don’t make many mistakes.
“They did get it wrong at the start maybe with a couple of players here and there but now over the last three or four years every single player who has come in, you look at Alvarez, he was £15m, £16m so well affordable for the whole of the Premier League and most of Europe, but City were the ones who went out and got him.
“I think the biggest draw to Man City is Pep Guardiola. All the players want to play for him. How he has evolved the team, even over the course of this season is incredible.”
After spending the remainder of the 2021/22 season on loan with River Plate, the 23-year-old joined up with Pep Guardiola’s squad in the previous summer period.
With 46 appearances under his belt across all competitions, the Argentine has scored 16 goals and supplied five assists, playing in numerous attacking positions.
Given what Alvarez has delivered for City this season, which is not only his first in England but one that saw him win a World Cup in the middle of it, it’s easy to see why Dunne has hailed the club’s move for him, especially with the fairly low fee they paid for him.
