Manchester City swept aside Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League tonight – and it was another great night for Rico Lewis.

City have now taken four points from their first two games, and it was a real stroll in the park in Slovakia.

City dominated, with Slovan rarely able to break out of their own half.

Ilkay Gungodan gave Manchester City the lead early in the first-half, striking from the edge of the area. Phil Foden made it two with a lovely controlled finish.

In the second-half, Erling Haaland grabbed his customary goal before being replaced.

James McAtee grabbed his first goal for City after coming off the bench.

City will obviously face much sterner tests than this, but a job still had to be done and there were plenty of great individual displays tonight – with Rico Lewis again standing out.

This season, City fans have watched Lewis blossom.

He has seen a lot of involvement so far, having taken his chance when Kyle Walker was late coming back after Euro 2024.

Lewis has pretty much impressed every time he has taken to the field this season, operating in a hybrid role.

Playing so high up has allowed Lewis to make use of his technical attributes and become a genuine attacking threat.

Tonight against Slovan, he showed his fantastic playmaking quality when he slipped in Haaland for 3-0. The defending wasn’t particularly good, but he spotted the gap and created the chance.

That was Lewis’ fourth assist in the Champions League and this now means that he has actually surpassed Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford – who only has three – in the competition (via Stat Muse).

Lewis’ fine form continues

This was just another terrific performance from Lewis in a City shirt.

Many had wanted Lewis to see a bit more involvement this term after Kyle Walker’s level dropped last season compared to 2022/23.

Those fans have got their wish, and Lewis has been absolutely thriving and has easily been one of City’s very best performers. He clearly has the trust of Pep, who recently hailed the teenager for his ability to play anywhere.

He just seems so at home in this team now. It is incredible to think that he is still just 19 years old.

To have already made four assists in the Champions League is a brilliant achievement and fans will back him to make many more in the years to come.
