Fabrizio Romano has stated on his YouTube channel that Jude Bellingham has a “special relationship” with Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.
While City have often been excluded from the race to sign the England international, the Italian journalist has reaffirmed the fact that the club are one of the contenders to land him in the summer.
Unsurprisingly, it has been claimed by reporter Melissa Reddy in the past that Real Madrid consider Pep Guardiola’s side as their ‘most serious threat’, regardless of several outlets billing the battle for the £130 million-rated midfielder’s (via talkSPORT) signature as one between Los Blancos and Liverpool.
Haaland and Bellingham’s special bond
Previously, the Mirror have mentioned that Haaland had a private conversation with Bellingham, trying to convince the 19-year-old to join the Premier League champions.
The Norwegian can attest to why life at the Etihad Stadium is worth the hype, as he has instantly fitted into Pep Guardiola’s philosophy.
As the 22-year-old continues to break records for fun, it is also key to note that the Sky Blues are in contention to win a historic quadruple.
And Haaland is front and centre of the club’s pursuit for history.
The pair are known to share an extremely close bond, considering they shared a dressing room at Borussia Dortmund.
In fact, in 2021, Bellingham told Bundesliga’s official website that the current top scorer in Europe is “an even better guy than he is a striker.”
Do City need to sign Bellingham?
It is likely that several fans question why Manchester City even need to sign Jude Bellingham in the first place.
After all, the club have elite midfielders such as Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan within their ranks.
However, it is key to understand that for the past two summers, Bernardo Silva has been edging towards an exit from the club.
Additionally, there is only one year left on the ageing Ilkay Gundogan’s current contract.
