Roy Hodgson admits £26m Palace player may have found life easier at Man City, Pep considered signing him

Roy Hodgson has now suggested that Crystal Palace No.11 Matheus Franca might have found life easier had he joined Manchester City in the summer.

The 76-year-old spoke to ESPN after Saturday’s 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium.

So, what did Roy Hodgson say about Matheus Franca and Manchester City? Let’s take a look…

What Roy Hodgson said about Matheus Franca and Manchester City

Well – according to journalist Julio Miguel Neto – Manchester City considered making a move for the Brazilian earlier this year.

Franca eventually signed for Crystal Palace in a £26m deal from Flamengo, but has only been afforded 40 minutes of action across three Premier League appearances.

Speaking about the 19-year-old’s lack of playing time, Hodgson explained that it is largely to do with him learning the defensive side of how Crystal Palace operate, saying:”Oh, he’s a skilful player. He’s got ability. He was a good spot. It’s not easy.

“He might have found it easier to come in at Man City or a team that’s at the top, and can afford for him to lose the ball. He’s playing at a team who have no margin for error.”

Manchester City have already proven themselves to be alert to the Brazilian market, snapping up gems such as Savinho, Yan Couto and Kayky in recent years – Franca, however, evaded the Citizens.

Matheus Franca could end up at Manchester City one day

Franca is already on Manchester City’s radar – if the aforementioned Neto is to be trusted.

Manchester City’s admiration for the Brazil Under-20 international surely only increased after his cameo at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Franca delivered the cross which led to Crystal Palace’s penalty, and also showed an impressive turn of pace to breeze past Kyle Walker – something we rarely see any opponent manage.

If the South American can now break into Hodgson’s starting XI and become a sensation in the Premier League, do not be surprised to see him at Manchester City one day.
