Roy Keane says Manchester City have a player who’s one of the best in Premier League history

Roy Keane believes Manchester City have a player who is not only one of the best in the Premier League right now but ever.

Manchester City are blessed with a great squad and they continued to do great things on Sunday with a win over Manchester United.

Pep Guardiola’s side were given an early scare when Marcus Rashford blasted home the opener from 25 yards.

But City dominated possession and finally found the goals with Phil Foden’s brace turning things around.

Erling Haaland avenged his first-half sitter by adding a third late on and ensuring City maintained the pressure on Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.

It was just the fourth time Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne have started together all season and Roy Keane was full of praise for the latter before the game.

Roy Keane on Kevin De Bruyne

Speaking on Sky Sports, Keane said: “Pep will be delighted.

“Considering that De Bruyne was out for a number of months. They’re now back up to speed after what we saw in midweek at Luton. Oh my goodness.

“De Bruyne is one of the best players to ever play in the Premier League. If Haaland makes the right runs, he will find him.

“What an asset that is to have in your team. I do worry for United’s back four.

“You talk about Haaland being the danger but they’ve got to get to De Bruyne. They have to stop the service.”

High praise

Given Keane could rightly consider himself one of the Premier League’s best-ever midfielders, it’s high praise to label De Bruyne as such.

He’s not wrong, either, with the brilliant Belgian being a pivotal player in five title triumphs as well as last season’s remarkable treble.

The Manchester derby was actually a quiet day for De Bruyne, as he sliced a couple of good chances wide and didn’t manage to register a goal contribution. A rarity since his return from injury.

But even on an off day he still played some beautiful passes and the more De Bruyen and Haaland can play together the more likely City will claim more silverware come the end of the season.
