Alex Crook has now shared the worst that could happen to Manchester City if the Citizens are found guilty of the Premier League’s 115 charges.

The talkSPORT journalist made the comments when speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast.

So, what was said about Manchester City? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, some have suggested that Manchester City could be stripped of their titles if found guilty of breaching financial rules.

However, Crook believes relegation is “the only punishment” that Manchester City realistically face.

He said: “What’s the worst that could happen to Man City, surely they can’t go back and take titles they have won?

“Well, the worst that could happen is relegation. The same with Chelsea. The precedent has been set with Everton. If you are going to deduct one team 10 points for falling foul of one charge and you have a team that has 115 charges and are found guilty, I think relegation probably is the only punishment.”

It comes after Rio Ferdinand joked that he wants Joleon Lescott’s 2011/12 Premier League medal if Manchester City are found guilty.

Manchester City could handle relegation

In our view, while relegation would be a major setback for Manchester City, it would not be a disaster.

Take Rangers, for example.

The Scottish giants were sent to the third division of Scotland after falling into administration in 2012, but eventually worked their way back up to recently contest in a UEFA Europa League final, after beating Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title in 2021.

That happened despite Rangers struggling financially, whereas Manchester City would still have their wealth if the Premier League forcefully relegated the Citizens, as well as one of the best academy setups in England to help them out.

Therefore, relegation would not be the end of the world for Manchester City by any means.
