Sergio Aguero is a bonafide Manchester City legend.
The Argentine remarkably scored 260 goals in 390 appearances for the Citizens – also providing 64 assists – including that memorable strike against QPR which sealed a first Premier League title for Manchester City right at the end of the 2011/12 campaign.
Now, the man born in Quilmes has been speaking to the Guardian about his stellar career, discussing a range of topics from his childhood to his friendship with Lionel Messi.
During the interview, Sergio Aguero also revealed he finds something Manchester City did back in May 2022 to be a bit “mad” – even now.
Sergio Aguero remains struck by his statue
Back in May 2022, Manchester City unveiled a statue of the 36-year-old outside of the Etihad Stadium in recognition of his efforts.
The topic of the statue was raised by the Guardian, to which Aguero responded: “I have friends who go to games and they send me pictures of it and I think, this is mad. That will always be there.”
However, the South American does not want to take all of the acclaim for that moment.
Aguero – who Yaya Toure told Manchester City to sign – added: “With time I appreciated how important that goal was, but I find it hard sometimes to hear people talk about it, because I think, che, there are others on the team. Look, if Mario Balotelli doesn’t play the pass. It’s the most important goal in my career and City’s most important. I’m happy, proud, that I scored it and it is forever in the history of the club, but it was everyone.”
Kevin De Bruyne also set to be honoured with a statue
Another Manchester City legend is leaving this summer in Kevin De Bruyne – after 108 goals and 177 assists in 418 appearances.

As a result, the Belgian – who can boast six Premier League titles – is set to receive a statue as well, according to the Daily Mail.
De Bruyne will not only join Aguero in having a statue outside the Etihad Stadium, but Colin Bell, Mike Summerbee, Francis Lee, David Silva and Vincent Kompany – who just won the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich – as well.
