Manchester City’s November nightmare continued on Saturday, as they fell to a fifth straight defeat when Tottenham dismantled the champions 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium.
That reverse made it five defeats on the bounce for Pep Guardiola’s side, a run which is the club’s worst since 2006.
With Liverpool claiming a late win at Southampton on Sunday afternoon, it means that City are now eight points behind Arne Slot’s side in the Premier League table after 12 games.
If history repeats itself this would be terminal for City’s hopes of a fifth consecutive title, as three teams have had an eight-or-more point lead at this stage of a Premier League season and all have gone on to win the title.
With City set to travel to Anfield on Sunday for a huge top-of-the-table clash, even Guardiola has discussed his concerns over what an 11-point gap would mean, but one Manchester City legend has a more optimistic take.

Sergio Aguero weighs in on Man City-Liverpool title race
Sergio Aguero won five Premier League titles with Manchester City and more often than not, he was a part of teams that had clawed their way back from significant deficits to lift the trophy at the end of the season.
“Pundits are always quick to call the race and my response is always the same: it ain’t over until it’s over,” he told Stake, via the Liverpool Echo. “The current point advantage may be insignificant by the end of the season. We’ve seen that happen frequently.
“The 2011/2012 season had us eight points below United and we took that trophy. Of course, beating Liverpool will certainly help, but it’s not wise to make such sweeping statements when the tournament still has a long way to go.”

How the 2011/12 campaign panned out
