Manchester City full-back Sergio Gomez has said that he thinks the Spain U21 manager will play him as a winger in their upcoming matches.
Gomez has just finished his first season at the Etihad Stadium.
The 22-year-old made 24 appearances across all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side, who finished the season with an historic Treble.
Gomez was used sparingly, following his £11 million summer move from Anderlecht.
Pep started the season using Joao Cancelo at left-back.
Halfway through the season though, the manager changed things up in a truly inspired way – going to a back three and pushing John Stones into midfield.
Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji both looked solid playing on the left, meaning Gomez’s opportunities were very limited.
He’s now looking forward to getting minutes under his belt with the Spain U21s, and Gomez has suggested he could be playing a position he hasn’t yet been seen in at City.
Sergio Gomez could play as a winger for the Spain U21s
Gomez has given an interview following City’s Treble celebrations.
Gomez enjoyed being with the team and basking in the glory.

But he is now more than happy to get cracking with the U21s, and has his sights set of performing well against Romania, Croatia and Ukraine.
And Gomez reckons the manager, Santi Denia, will look to take advantage of his attacking qualities and play him as a winger rather than as a left-back.
He told MARCA: “I haven’t talked to him, I think he wants me to play as a winger, but I consider myself a versatile player and I’ll be ready for anything.”
Man City star Sergio Gomez needs to show his quality for Spain U21s
It is good to see Gomez already being fully focused on his football so soon after the Treble celebrations.
He seems focused and determined to make an impression with the Spain U21s.
For quite a few City fans, the jury is still very much out on Gomez.

He didn’t feature much in 2022/23, playing under 1000 minutes across his 24 appearances. And when he did take to the field, he did look a little vulnerable defensively at times.
It has been tricky for him. The system change did not help his cause, and he is low down in the pecking order at the moment.
Him playing as a winger for the Spain U21s would be interesting. Potentially it would suit him more.
It’s not a position he is completely alien to. But it’s one he has not played in for City yet.
