Ajax are reportedly eyeing a transfer move for Manchester City midfielder James McAtee according to Fabrizio Romano.
Earlier in the summer window, the Citizens saw Carlos Borges join the Dutch club on a five-year deal worth £17m.
Now though, Ajax have added another City youngster to their transfer target list.
Ajax eyeing McAtee transfer move
In a recent Twitter post, Romano had this to say on the situation.
He said: “EXCL: Ajax add Manchester City talent James McAtee to their shortlist in case Mohammed Kudus leaves the club this summer.
“City rate McAtee highly but Ajax set to approach to ask conditions. Kudus, in talks with West Ham… priority target if [Lucas] Paquetá joins Man City.”
Having made 89 appearances for City’s youth sides, scoring 46 goals and delivering 29 assists in the process, the 20-year-old got his first taste of regular senior football last season as he spent the campaign on loan at Sheffield United, helping them win promotion back to the Premier League.
During his time at the Yorkshire club, the midfielder scored nine goals and provided four assists in 43 appearances.
Now back in Pep Guardiola’s squad, McAtee came on as a late substitute in City’s 3-0 win over Burnley in the Premier League and has been included in the squad for tonight’s Super Cup clash against Sevilla.
Bearing in mind how Kevin De Bruyne is now facing four months on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, this could create a pathway for the Englishman to get some regular game time in the side and show he has what it takes to be a reliable player for them.
With that in mind, we feel that the Citizens should not consider selling McAtee to Ajax, regardless of whether or not they end up signing Paqueta, as Romano mentioned.
