Barring Phil Foden, the treble-winner lack a creative force in the middle of the park, also considering Ilkay Gundogan’s exit this summer.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester City are set to enter into the ‘crucial stages’ of the deal to sign Lucas Paqueta starting from Thursday.

Key to wrap up the Lucas Paqueta deal as swiftly as possible

As fixtures come thick and fast, Manchester City must do everything in their power to sign Lucas Paqueta as soon as possible.

For instance, the fact that it seems unlikely that the former Lyon technician will not be signed by the time they play Newcastle United this Saturday is a blow, considering how much of a challenge it will be to get the all-important three points against them.

With Arsenal determined to kickstart the season as boisterously as they did last season, the last thing City would perhaps hope for is to have too much of a gap to hunt down in De Bruyne’s absence.

Lucas Paqueta’s arrival would likely keep them in the race, assuming that he settles into Pep Guardiola’s system instantly.
