Chelsea are reportedly set to open talks with Manchester City over a potential transfer move for Cole Palmer.

Earlier this month, the 21-year-old said that his aim this season is to play regular football, whether that would be at the Manchester club or elsewhere.

In addition to that, Pep Guardiola admitted that he doesn’t know whether the winger will be in his squad or at another club by the time the summer transfer window closes on Friday.

Now though, a big development has come to light regarding one club’s interest in signing the City youngster.

In a recent Twitter post, journalist Fabrizio Romano had this to say on the matter.

He said: EXCLUSIVE: Chelsea add Cole Palmer to list of talented offensive players being considered for final addition!

“Chelsea are set to open talks soon as they see Palmer as best solution. It remains to be seen Man City position on Palmer but Chelsea really want him.”

After scoring a goal in the Community Shield against Arsenal and one in the Super Cup match against Sevilla, the Englishman has been an unused substitute for City’s previous two Premier League matches against Newcastle United and Sheffield United.

While this shows how useful the winger can be when given the opportunity to play, Palmer may not be as prominent in the team as he may like to be, which could also be impacted by the recent arrival of Jeremy Doku.

In terms of a potential move to Chelsea, not only do we feel that it would be unwise for City to help strengthen a side that are aiming to take the Manchester club’s titles away from them, the fact that they already have a big number of attacking players in their ranks, including former City star Raheem Sterling, says to us that they may not be able to give Palmer the regular minutes he’s after, regardless of his clear talent.

With all of that in mind, we feel that City should not entertain the possibility of selling the winger to Chelsea before the summer transfer window closes.
