Several English clubs now want Man City player who Pep Guardiola said was the ‘future’

Manchester City are currently in the process of reducing the size of their playing squad.

Pep Guardiola made it clear towards the end of last season that he doesn’t want to work with a big group of players throughout the 25/26 season, as the legendary coach does not like leaving some of his big names at home on a matchday.

Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips are two players who are certain to leave Manchester; however, the Premier League giants are struggling to move the duo on as a result of the finances involved.

James McAtee is Man City’s main focus at present, as there are several clubs interested in the 22-year-old, while loan moves for Claudio Echeverri and Vitor Reis could also be an easy way of reducing numbers.

Several English clubs have now become interested in a loan move for another Man City talent, which could see another player depart the Etihad Stadium before the end of the transfer window.

Championship clubs are interested in Jahmai Simpson-Pusey

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey has been with Man City since joining their academy in 2013, and last season saw the centre-back make his senior debut, as the 19-year-old came on as a second-half substitute in a 2–1 defeat to Tottenham in the EFL Cup.

After some injury issues in Guardiola’s defence, the youngster would go on to feature five more times for the legendary coach throughout the 24/25 campaign, starting games in the Champions League and Premier League.

Micah Richards thinks Simpson-Pusey struggled against Sporting CP; however, that has not stopped several Championship and Scottish Premiership clubs from wanting to take the defender on loan for the upcoming season, reports Pete O’Rourke.

This would be a positive step for Simpson-Pusey as it would see him get regular senior football, and if he can join a team that will guarantee him minutes in the Championship, that would be a great education for the 19-year-old.

Man City fans want to see more of Simpson-Pusey, and a loan move this season could lead to that in future campaigns.

Pep Guardiola sees Jahmai Simpson-Pusey as the future of Man City

Following consecutive starts against Sporting and Brighton back in November, Guardiola was full of praise for Simpson-Pusey, with the legendary coach going as far as saying that the 19-year-old is a player for Man City’s future.

“The guy played really good, the young lad again, with this composure and duels and everything was good. It’s not easy for him,” Guardiola told the press about Simpson-Pusey after City clashed with Brighton.

“Normally, the young lads, they must come in with support from the team, with Rodri in front of them, right? With the best Kyle [Walker], and defenders, and now we support him.

“Now he’s playing in a position that is difficult for him, but he performed unbelievable. We have a central defender to help us for the future, for the next years. I’m really pleased. Always there is good news when the situation goes bad, and this is one of them.”
