Manchester City recently saw four of their player get included in the 30-man shortlist for the 2024 Ballon d’Or.

The 2023 rankings saw eight City players finish in the top 30, five of which were in the top 10.

The Manchester club then went on to become the first side to win a fourth consecutive Premier League trophy, as well as seeing four players make it to the final of the 2024 European Championship.

Following the announcement of the latest Ballon d’Or shortlist, a pundit has now pinpointed one of the four City players up for the award that he thinks should be the winner.

Shaka Hislop says Rodri should win the Ballon d’Or

On the subject of who he thinks should win the Ballon d’Or this year, Shaka Hislop had this to say on the matter in a recent video shared on the ESPN UK YouTube channel.

He said: “I am going for Rodri.

“For me, when we talk about Rodri and you talk about City successes, and albeit they got knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid on penalties, and Spain’s successes, I feel that Rodri was far more pivotal to those than Carvajal was for Real Madrid.

“I vote Rodri.”

Rodri would be a worthy winner of the Ballon d’Or

Hislop isn’t the only pundit to back the City midfielder to win this prestigious award, as Gabby Agbonlahor recently claimed that Rodri should win the Ballon d’Or over Vinicius Junior.

Last season saw Rodri appear in 50 games for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions, scoring nine goals and delivering 14 assists along the way.

In his 34 Premier League appearances last term, the 28-year-old ended the campaign with the highest total of progressive passes (376), shot-creating actions (43) and successful tackles (43) in the City squad.

Rodri then went on to play a key role in seeing Spain win the Euros, further highlighting the argument that he should win the Ballon d’Or.

Now that Hislop has shared that he thinks Rodri should win the award, it’s likely that he’ll be joining a large number of City supporters who feel the same.
