“Simply mind blowing”… Paul Merson now comments on what is happening at Manchester City

Paul Merson has now shared his thoughts as Manchester City begin to welcome Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland back into the fold.

The 55-year-old made the comments when writing for Sports Keeda.

So, what did Paul Merson say about Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne? Let’s take a look…

What Merson said about Haaland and De Bruyne

Well, the Arsenal legend finds it to be “mind blowing” that Pep Guardiola can afford to have “£200m worth of talent” coming back into the starting XI.

Merson wrote: “You talk about clubs making signings in January to revitalize their squads for the second half of the season, but just look at what’s happening at Manchester City.

“They have Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland returning after their respective injury absences – that’s almost like £200m worth of talent coming into the team. It’s simply mind blowing, no two ways about it.”

It is a luxury most clubs can only dream of – to say the least.

De Bruyne made his long awaited comeback from a hamstring injury in Sunday’s 5-0 FA Cup win over Huddersfield, providing an assist for Jeremy Doku just minutes after coming off the bench.

In regards to Haaland, the Norwegian is back in light training after a foot problem and could feature against Newcastle on Saturday.

Who could drop out for Manchester City?

No matter how well others are performing, you cannot leave De Bruyne and Haaland out, so Guardiola will have to upset a couple of his Manchester City squad.

In our view, Julian Alvarez and Jack Grealish will most likely be the ones to drop out, with Phil Foden moving back out wide to accommodate the Belgium international in a central role.

Bernardo Silva will surely keep his place in the side following a string of excellent performances, while Foden has stepped up to be a match winner in recent weeks, even making FA Cup history against Huddersfield.

Guardiola clearly has a wealth of quality options at his disposal, and it is a lovely problem for a Premier League manager to have a selection headache of this kind.
