Sky Sports pundit claims one of his ‘favourite’ Man City players went missing vs Ipswich Town

Manchester City made it two wins out of two in their latest Premier League season by beating Ipswich Town 4-1.

Goals from Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne sealed the three points for Pep Guardiola’s side after they found themselves 1-0 down after seven minutes.

Despite the victory, a pundit has identified one player in the City side who had an unusually quiet afternoon on this occasion.

Paul Merson left surprised by Bernardo Silva’s performance in Man City vs Ipswich Town

Assessing the win over Kieran McKenna’s side on Sky Sports Football (5:23 pm) Paul Merson had this to say about Bernardo Silva’s performance.

He said: “Silva really didn’t get involved today. I didn’t really see Silva today. Weird. He is one of my favourite players.”

Silva had a quiet game against Ipswich

After completing the full 90 minutes in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Chelsea, Silva did the same again this time around against Ipswich.

Despite having 62 touches of the ball in total and accurately completing 48 of the 51 passes he attempted, the Portuguese international didn’t have that much of an impact in the game.

Specifically, from an attacking point of view, Silva didn’t make any key passes, didn’t have any clear shots at goal and didn’t attempt even one dribble.

Then from a defensive standpoint, the midfielder didn’t make any tackles or interceptions in the game and also lost all five duels he was involved in.

This display ultimately earned the 30-year-old a rather underwhelming overall match rating of 6.6/10 from SofaScore, making him the lowest-rated outfield City player on the day.

Taking all of that on board, it’s understandable why Merson was unimpressed by what he saw from Silva in his latest appearance for the Manchester club.

Moving forward, hopefully, this performance will just be a one-off for the midfielder.
