Manchester City have been involved in numerous deals throughout the current summer transfer window.

In addition to securing a deal to sign Savinho from Troyes as City’s only incoming transfer of the window so far, the Blues have also sold the likes of Sergio Gomez and academy players such as Liam Delap and Alex Robertson.

With the window set to close at the end of the month, a pundit has shared his astonishment at one particular deal he’s heard the Manchester club could be about to complete.

Pundit can’t believe Man City have agreed to sell Julian Alvarez

Appearing in a recent video shared on the Sky Sports YouTube channel, Matt Kilgallon had this to say when asked if he’s surprised that City have reportedly agreed a deal to sell Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid for £81m.

He said: “I am a little bit. I mean the money they’ve got for him, outstanding really.

“He’s come in at Man City, he’s won everything, he’s a threat when he comes on, maybe he doesn’t start as many games as he would like and that’s maybe why he’s thought you know what, we talk about again a time his career now his age he might want to be that number one striker.

“With [Erling] Haaland there, I don’t think he was ever going to be, was he?

“Great signing for them but yeah a little bit surprised that he’s let him go Pep [Guardiola] because I know he likes a small squad but he was part of it, wasn’t he?

“He could tell he had something with him. I saw him a couple of times pull Alvarez over and sort of arm around him sort of almost looked after him but let’s see what happens there.”

When asked if he thinks City will need to bring in a replacement for Alvarez, Kilgallon had this to say in response.

“I think they might need one. I mean they’ve got young lads coming through and they have got players there that could step up but to knock out a game consistently for 30, 40 games a young lad is tough and score goals.

“Alvarez came on and was a threat and producing, when he came on he was a handful. Can these young lads do that and come through? I don’t think Pep can rely on that.

“I think he’ll try and sneak one in personally.”

City couldn’t turn down such a big offer for Alvarez

Having only paid £14m to sign the Argentine back in 2022, it’s understandable why the Blues have apparently accepted such a significant fee for Alvarez.

Looking back over the previous season, the 24-year-old appeared in 54 games across all competitions, finding the back of the net 19 times and supplying 13 assists along the way.

This shows how much of a prominent figure Alvarez is in the City team and why Kilgallon is surprised they are open to letting him leave.
