Journalist Sam Lee has revealed what someone has told him about Manchester City transfer pursuit of Josko Gvardiol.

Earlier this week, it was claimed that the Citizens are preparing an official bid for the RB Leipzig defender after having verbal approaches of €75m (£64m) plus add-ons rejected by the German club, who want €100m (86m) for him.

Now, one journalist has shared some information he was told by someone close to Leipzig regarding this particular transfer saga.

Speaking on a recent edition of the Let Me Talk podcast, Lee said this about what someone had told him about Gvardiol and his potential move to City.

He said: “In terms of Gvardiol, somebody did message me and said because [Dominik] Szoboszlai has gone to Liverpool, does that mean that Leipzig have made enough money they don’t need to sell Gvardiol, and all I did was message a mate who had a meeting with Leipzig about it and he said that transfer is 100% going to happen.

“Now that is me just giving an update for the sake of an update, you can do with that what you want, it’s not my info.”

Taking into account how Leipzig director, Max Eberl, recently revealed that Gvardiol and his entourage have told the club that he wants to join Pep Guardiola’s side, this could be a big factor in why the person Lee spoke to said it’s certain that the defender will be a City player next season.

While this may not be Lee’s own information, this could still be an interesting and exciting update for City supporters to hear, especially considering how the 21-year-old earned a lot of praise and hype following his efforts for Croatia at the World Cup in Qatar.

Moving forward, if City can work out a deal to sign the centre-back that suits all parties, the Citizens will be getting their hands on a very exciting and capable player that could become a significant, long-term figure at the Etihad Stadium.
