Mateo Kovacic has named the one player at Manchester City he feels can be one of Europe’s top talents for the next decade.

The midfielder only joined the club in the past few days in a £30m deal from Chelsea, but has already made a big claim about one of his new teammates at the Etihad Stadium.

Speaking to the club’s media, Kovacic said this when asked which players currently in the City squad have the ability to dominate the footballing landscape for the foreseeable future.

He said: “I think Phil Foden is probably the player that can dominate and that [has] already won so much throughout his young career and showing every game that he is on a big level and a huge, huge talent.

“As well in this game [Champions League final] when he came on was great, and to see his movement and his skill, I think he’s a special player. Very similar to David Silva maybe, this is the type of player that I see in Foden.”

Since making his senior debut for the club back in November 2017, the 23-year-old has made 217 appearances for City across all competitions, scoring 60 goals, delivering 41 assists and winning numerous trophies including five Premier League titles.

Interestingly, the newest City recruit didn’t name Erling Haaland as one player that could be a big force in world football for the next decade, which may surprise a lot of supporters given how the striker just ended his debut season at the club by scoring 52 goals in 53 appearances.

This, we feel, shows just how impressed Kovacic has been by Foden since he became a regular in Pep Guardiola’s side, especially in addition to likening him to Silva.

Moving forward, it’ll be interesting to see how the two players play alongside each other for the treble-winners next season and if they can make a dynamic connection with each other on the pitch that can result in regular goals and assists.
