Manchester City returned to winning ways in the Premier League against Aston Villa last night- and Rodri was left utterly blown away by one of his teammates after the game.

After putting in a sub-par performance against Arsenal on Sunday, City were much improved at the Etihad last night against a good side.

City met some resistance in the first-half as Villa equalised through Jhon Duran following an opening goal from Rodri.

But City got their noses back in front through Phil Foden and the 23-year-old then really turned it on in the second-half.

Foden grabbed a second with a lovely first-time finish after good footwork by Rodri, before he then lashed in his third minutes later.

It was a scintillating performance, which led to high praise from another top performer on the night Rodri…

This was one of Foden’s best performances of the season for City, and there have certainly been plenty.

He started the game against Villa a little quiet, but then sprung into life midway through the first-half, before destroying Unai Emery’s side in the second.

Foden was a joy to watch playing in the middle, with Kevin De Bruyne rested.

He got between the lines as he does so brilliantly, and made things happen constantly. That was not the case against Arsenal on Sunday, but he was bang at it last night, as if to try and make up for the weekend.

Speaking after the game, Rodri – who himself was absolutely outstanding – lauded his City teammate. He said on TNT Sports: “This player has grown every single year. This young lad now is a more mature player, he can score whenever he wants. He’s amazing, he has a special quality, I always said. So happy for him.”

What a player

Foden was a joy to watch against Villa, and it was brilliant to see him turning it on after a sub-par display against Arsenal.

It is a testament to his character that he can put in a performance like this after being so quiet in the previous match.

Hopefully, he can maintain this form right the way through until the end of the season.

Not only will his form have a potentially massive bearing on the trophies City could win, but he could well be heading towards the PFA Player of the Season award.
