After the contest, Robbie Savage noted that the Portuguese international’s ability to run beyond defences is a trait that Ilkay Gundogan also shared.

The 25-year-old was in terrific touch, as he dismantled the Clarets’ high-press by turning out of pressure repeatedly as he went on to run at the visitors’ defence while also making intelligent runs beyond their backlime on the left-hand side.

The former Wolves talisman’s astute runs in behind the opposition defence led to him testing James Trafford in the first-half with a dangerous attempt as he cut inside from the left wing.

As Manchester City defeated Burnley 3-1 on Wednesday, former Omonia manager Neil Lennon was full of praise for Matheus Nunes.

Nunes’ dribbling was a sight to behold while defensively as well, the ex-Sporting CP midfielder helped the Sky Blues regain possession on multiple occasions as he triumphed in several of his duels.

All in all, Matheus Nunes was a treat to witness with and without the ball at his feet.
