Peter Crouch has shared one thing that Pep Guardiola told Mark Hughes about being so successful at Manchester City.

The Spaniard made history with the Manchester club last season by winning their fifth Premier League title in six years, as well as the FA Cup and their first Champions League final.

With Guardiola now on the hunt to break another record and make his side the first club to ever win four Premier League titles in a row, one former top-flight player has shared some details on what the City boss had previously said regarding the key to his success.

Speaking in a recent edition of The Peter Crouch Podcast, the former England striker had this to say about what Guardiola had to say to one of his former managers.

He said: “I remember playing against Man City and they absolutely destroyed us, for Stoke, and Mark Hughes telling us that he’d spoke to Guardiola after the game and he said ‘How is it working for you so well?’ And he said ‘It’s easy when you’ve got David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne, two best players in the league working harder than everyone else, it just sets the example.’”

Since being appointed as City’s manager back in 2016, the 52-year-old has overlooked 436 matches across all competitions, winning 320, drawing 52 and losing 64.

In terms of silverware, City have won five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, one Super Cup and one Champions League.

With Guardiola saying that the key to success is to get his players working harder than anyone else, while this may be seen as a simple thing, getting that sort of hard work implemented over such a significant period of time is anything but simple.

As things stand, the Spaniard’s contract at the Etihad Stadium is set to expire in the summer of 2025, so if that does end up being the time when he walks away from the club, he’ll want to be as successful as possible until that point, meaning that his current crop of players will need to keep working hard on the pitch.
