Real Madrid last night won the Copa del Rey, but Steve McManaman insisted the Spanish giants will need to improve ‘exponentially’ if they are to beat Manchester City.
City extended their lead at the top of the Premier League yesterday with a 2-1 win over Leeds United.

Pep Guardiola was able to rest key men such as John Stones, Rodri and Jack Grealish.
Real Madrid were in action hours later, against Osasuna in the final of the Copa del Rey.
It was their chance to send a real message to City, ahead of the huge Champions League semi-final first leg on Tuesday.
Real ran out 2-1 winners to claim the trophy for the first time since 2014. But it was not a convincing performance from Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
Winger Rodrygo got both goals for Real, with his first coming after just 103 seconds. That was the fastest goal in a Spanish cup final for 17 years.
His second came 20 minutes from time, after Lucas Torro had levelled.
Osasuna almost forced extra-time, with Kike Barja seeing an effort cleared off the line by Dani Carvajal right at the end.

Osasuna had more shots than Real (5 vs 3). But ultimately, their lack of experience in finals was the killer for them.
In the eyes of McManaman, Real need to seriously improve when they face City.
The midfielder, who played for both clubs, said (ESPN FC): “You would say no (they are not in good enough form ahead of facing City). But you always say no about Real Madrid, they always just seem to do enough.
“Judging their performance tonight they have to improve exponentially to beat Manchester City. But in the Champions League they do find something else.
“Going into the tie, you would certainly say Manchester City are the favourites to qualify. Particularly with the second game being at the Etihad. I think that’s a big thing.”
Boost for Manchester City as Real Madrid fail to convince against Osasuna in Copa del Rey final
This verdict from McManaman will be music to many City fans’ ears ahead of Tuesday’s game.
Yes, Real beat Osasuna. But they did not play well and were somewhat fortunate, against a side who were chasing their first major trophy in their 103-year history.

While City are the team in much better form going into the clash, Real are still a top team. And, of course, they usually always show up in the Champions League.
It’s going to take a huge effort from City.
But they really could not be in a better moment heading into the game, so fans will be expectant.
