Ian Wright has now expressed his surprise at how quickly Pep Guardiola decided to throw Jeremy Doku into the deep end at Manchester City.

The 59-year-old was speaking about the Manchester City No.11 on his podcast, Wrighty’s House.

So, what did Ian Wright say about Pep Guardiola and Jeremy Doku at Manchester City? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Arsenal legend finds it “strange” to see that the Belgium international has gone straight into the starting XI at Manchester City.

Of course, Jack Grealish’s injury has provided an opening for Doku on the left wing, although Wright is still shocked to see how quickly Guardiola has taken to his £55.5m signing from Rennes.

He said: “It’s not just that he’s very fast… if you can get the ball to him quickly… this guy can go. He can go bam, cutback, Haaland (goal). It’s just strange to me that Pep’s thrown him straight in.”

Usually, some of Manchester City’s new recruits are given a period of adaptation to life under the Spaniard, as they get to grips with his intense and unique demands.

However, that is far from the case when Doku is concerned.

The 21-year-old has already made two starts in the Premier League since his move from France on August 25th, which is very impressive given the level of competition he’s up against.

Furthermore, for someone as young as Doku to adapt this quickly to life in a new country – under a very demanding coach in Guardiola – speaks volumes about his immense talent and mental fortitude.

Jeremy Doku can become a superstar at Manchester City

Doku has made an incredibly wise choice to team up with Guardiola at this age – in our view, he has the ability to better what Eden Hazard accomplished in England.

The Belgian has pace to burn, knows how to finish and can dribble as well as anybody in Europe.

Usually with a player like Doku, it is the decision making which lets them down, but as Guardiola shares his knowledge with him over time, the sky really is the limit for this precocious talent.
