It has been claimed that Roberto De Zerbi could manage Manchester City in the future, even if is not as a Pep Guardiola replacement.

Since taking over the Brighton & Hove Albion boss, the 44-year-old has managed to establish his reputation as one of the best managers in Europe.

Leading the Seagulls to a sixth-place finish in the league last season, De Zerbi led the club to a place in the Europa League for the first time in their history.

The Italian coach’s tactical ideas have also taken the Premier League by storm during his time at the American Express Stadium.

Now, Ben Jacobs has revealed that Roberto De Zerbi could manage Manchester City one day, even if it is not to come in as a long-term successor to Pep Guardiola.

“I still think that one day, it might not be his next move and it might not therefore be directly after Pep Guardiola but I still think there is a strong possibility one day [Roberto] De Zerbi will manage Manchester City”, he said on CaughtOffsideTV.

Roberto De Zerbi would be an interesting appointment

Considering how there has been plenty of discourse over the Brescia-born tactician replacing Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, the fact that he could potentially be targeted by the club long after the Spaniard’s farewell is intriguing.

However, there are pros and cons to the potential appointment.

The positives are that Roberto De Zerbi is extremely tactically astute, has a larger-than-life persona which tends to fit perfectly at big clubs like City, plays an attractive brand of football and he has the ability to improve players.

The only negative is that so far in his career, the former Sassuolo boss has yet to win several major trophies and at the Etihad Stadium, winning is a prerequisite for any manager.

However, if De Zerbi manages another club elsewhere and gains winning experience, he may be suitable for the job one day.
