‘Stupid’… Pundit says 25-year-old Liverpool player has done something foolish before the Man City game

Steve Nicol has slammed Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold for his recent comments about Manchester City.

Ahead of tomorrow’s big clash between the Citizens and Liverpool, the Reds full-back said that the trophies his side have won over the past few years will mean more to Liverpool fans than City’s trophies will have for their fans due to the financial difference between the two clubs.

This has now led to one pundit and former Liverpool player sharing his thoughts on what the right-back claimed.

Speaking in a recent video shared on the ESPN FC YouTube channel, Nicol had this to say when asked what he thought about the 25-year-old’s comments about City.

He said: “It’s a stupid thing to say. Whether you think it’s true or not, you don’t say anything to wind up an opponent that’s coming up very shortly, and you certainly don’t want to poke the bear if it’s Manchester City.

“It’s going to be tough enough to play against them without just an extra little bit of incentive. I mean it’s just dumb, it’s a dumb, dumb move, particularly just before you’re going to play them.”

For a player to make a claim about another club’s financial situation and their fanbase, it seems unlikely to us that Alexander-Arnold knows the full ins and outs on both of these matters.

In terms of the timing of these comments, we also agree with Nicol about how it may act as an extra incentive for the City players when they face off against Liverpool tomorrow afternoon, in addition to their main incentive of wanting to take a step closer to winning the Premier League title.

Moving forward, the best way for the Citizens to respond to Alexander-Arnold’s dig is by beating Liverpool and then going on to become the first top-flight side to win a fourth Premier League title in a row, which would then give the City supporters the chance to show the Liverpool star what it means to them once again.
