Phil Foden has said that Manchester City were fortunate to have Ilkay Gundogan on their books after his side beat Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup final.
The England international lavished praise on to the £20 million (Guardian) man’s performance while speaking to club media.
As Ilkay Gundogan starred for Manchester City against Manchester United with a magical brace, courtesy of two volleys with each foot, Phil Foden breathed a sigh of relief that he was playing in sky blue.
Phil Foden says Manchester City were lucky to have Ilkay Gundogan on their disposal against Manchester United
Branded as ‘outstanding’ by Roy Keane, the German midfielder was at his brilliant best, as he once again came up clutch for the Sky Blues.
On a day where City were far from their free-flowing selves, it took two moments of magic from their captain to inspire them to a special win.
Phil Foden agreed about how instrumental a role Ilkay Gundogan played for Manchester City as they now have the bragging rights after beating Manchester United.

“Good job we had Gundogan on the pitch today because he was on fire.”
Foden continued to laud his teammate, saying, “He’s such a clever player. He’s someone that always calms down the game and known when to control it, and he always scores big goals. He’s a pleasure to play with and he’s one of the best players I’ve ever played with in my career.”
Phil Foden is absolutely spot on
While the decision to award the penalty for Bruno Fernandes’ goal to Manchester United was farcical, it is fair to say that had it not been for Ilkay Gundogan, perhaps Phil Foden is right in implying that things could have gone south for Manchester City.
The FA Cup champions dominated proceedings for the most part but their tempo, final ball and crispness on the ball was light years from when it is at its best.
However, Gundogan stepped up to the plate with two cracking strikes to prove why he remains one of the best midfielders on the planet.
