Manchester City are now keen to sign Gavi from Barcelona – a player who Gary Lineker is a huge fan of.
It was TEAMtalk who claimed that Pep Guardiola wants the Barcelona No.6 at the Etihad Stadium.
So, what has Gary Lineker previously said about Manchester City target Gavi? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, this would be quite the signing by Manchester City.
TEAMtalk believe Barcelona may have to sell Gavi to ease their financial problems, and a bid of £120m could be enough to sign the £114,031-a-week maestro.
If a deal did end up materialising, it would seemingly come with Lineker’s seal of approval.
The BBC Match of the Day host once called Gavi a “superb” footballer when speaking to Football JOE about La Liga’s best breakout star, even putting him ahead of Vinicius Junior back in April 2022.
Lineker said: “He has been superb.”

The 62-year-old also described the 19-year-old as “Spain’s new midfield maestro” on Twitter.
Furthermore, Lineker has called Gavi a “shining young light” for Barcelona – clearly, he thinks very highly of the Spanish wonderkid.
Manchester City face competition for Gavi
TEAMtalk add that Chelsea are also very keen to sign Gavi.
As things stand, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are not really seen as fierce competition to Manchester City, as they are currently outside of European competition having finished 12th in the Premier League last season.

Nevertheless, Todd Boehly is obsessed with signing Europe’s best talent, and Gavi is arguably the cream of the crop as far as teenage prospects go, now Jude Bellingham has entered his twenties.
Therefore – if Chelsea can get themselves back in the UEFA Champions League this season – the Blues may act as tough competition against Manchester City for the Barcelona gem’s signature.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Manchester City monitor Gavi’s situation.
