‘Superb…’ Gary Lineker so impressed by £51m Manchester City player in Everton win

Football legend Gary Lineker was left impressed by his fellow striker Erling Haaland after his brace against Everton.

Manchester City’s winning streak continued on Saturday as they overcame a stubborn Everton defence to claim a 2-0 victory.

It was a hard-fought victory with Sean Dyche’s side proving resilient but City finally found the break through from a reliable source.

Haaland, who has only recently returned from a lengthy injury lay-off, struck in the 71st minute to break the deadlock.

The Norwegian sensation pounced on a loose ball from a corner and rocketed it into the roof of Jordan Pickford’s net.

It was a huge relief for City who, with the three points, have leapfrogged Liverpool to the top of the Premier League table – at least until the conclusion of the Merseyside outfit’s match with Burnley.

Haaland then struck again on the 85th minute with a clinical finish to secure the victory.

“Superb from @ErlingHaaland,” Lineker tweeted after his second strike. “What a goal scorer.”

Erling Haaland’s back

He still managed to get an assist to complete Phil Foden’s hat trick but Haaland did look a little rusty in his first start since his injury against Brentford.

The 23-year-old had missed 12 matches with a stress reaction in his foot, his longest stint on the side lines since making the move to City in 2022.

But he was back to his clinical best against the Toffees, scoring with not only his, but the whole team’s, first shot on target of the match.

He now has 16 goals in the Premier League this season and his return to form is just what City need as the title race really heats up.
