Micah Richards has claimed that Julian Alvarez’s performances for Manchester City this season have taken the limelight away from Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian scored two of City’s three goals in their 3-1 win over Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Despite that, another one of City’s attacking players has been the topic of conversation with one former City player and pundit making a rather interesting claim on the matter.

Speaking in a recent edition of The Rest Is Football, Richards had this to say about Alvarez and his efforts this season.

He said: “Alvarez has sort of taken the shine away from Haaland.”

With 15 games under his belt across all competitions this season, Alvarez has found the net seven times and delivered five assists.

In fact, across his nine Premier League appearances, the Argentine has made more goal-creating actions (5) than any other City player.

Across his 49 appearances in all competitions last season, the 23-year-old found the net 17 times, which shows that he is well on his way to reaching that point once again this season.

Taking into account how Haaland has scored 11 goals in 14 games, it’s safe to say that both he and Alvarez have been two of City’s bright sparks throughout the season so far, which will have undoubtedly pleased Pep Guardiola and a lot of City supporters.

Regarding Richards’ comment, if the attacking duo can continue to score goals on a consistent basis, they’ll both be getting plenty of headlines and praise from other pundits, especially if they end up winning more silverware by the end of the campaign.

Moving forward, with the Citizens having a big game ahead of them this weekend against Manchester United at Old Trafford, the away side will need both Haaland and Alvarez to be at their best to make sure the team pick up all three points.
