Manchester City are reportedly close to agreeing a new in-house deal for Nathan Ake.
Earlier today, De Telegraaf reported that the Manchester club and Pep Guardiola have decided to reward the Dutchman with an improved contract following his impressive campaign last season.
Now, one journalist has shared some behind-the-scenes details on how close the two parties are to agreeing a deal.
City close to agreeing fresh Ake deal

In a recent Twitter post, Fabrizio Romano had this to say on the matter.
He said: “Manchester City are close to reaching an agreement with Nathan Aké over new long term deal. Talks are advanced — understand it’s just matter of time to get it done. Salary will be significantly improved, as Telegraaf reported.”
City signed the 28-year-old back in the 2020 summer transfer window from Bournemouth in a deal worth a reported fee of £41m.
Since then, the centre-back has made 81 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions, chipping in with seven goals along the way.
Last season saw Ake play a prominent role in City’s treble-winning campaign, featuring in 41 games in total, playing in the centre-back and left-back roles.

In fact, only Ruben Dias (56) ended the previous Premier League campaign with more clearances than the former Bournemouth star (48).
With that in mind and the fact that Paul Dickov called the defender “magnificent” for his display against Bukayo Saka in City’s fourth-round FA Cup clash against Arsenal, it’s easy to see why the club are keen to offer him a new deal and reward him for his efforts last season.
Moving forward, if Ake does end up signing a new deal and can continue to put in impressive displays on the pitch, he’ll no doubt be seen as one of the most important players in Pep Guardiola’s squad.
