Manchester City have reportedly opened talks over a potential transfer deal for Benjamin Pavard.

Earlier this week, it was reported that City have identified the Frenchman as their main replacement for Kyle Walker, who has apparently verbally agreed to join Bayern Munich this summer.

Now, some fresh behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the Citizens’ pursuit of the France international.

In a recent Twitter post, journalist Florian Plettenberg said this on the matter, including Pep Guardiola’s view on the player.

He said: “#Pavard: FC Bayern, waiting for concrete offers now!

“Talks between the players management and Man City took place as #Guardiola is very interested in Pavard. But there are no agreements yet. At this stage, it’s a race between #MCFC, ManUtd and Juventus.”

After making 88 appearances for VfB Stuttgart, the 27-year-old join Bayern back in the 2019 summer transfer window.

Since then, the France international has featured in 162 games for the German champions across all competitions, during which he has managed to score 12 goals and provide 12 assists.

In addition to being a useful goal contributor, Pavard, who is now in the final year of his contract at the Bundesliga club, has shown how versatile he can be on the pitch by playing in the right-back and centre-back roles.

This could be why Guardiola has an interest in adding the Frenchman to his ranks, which already contains a number of players that have the ability to play in different roles.

Moving forward, if the Spaniard sees Pavard as a useful signing that can strengthen his team, the club should do all they can to make sure they end up sealing the defender’s signature this summer, especially if they end up seeing Walker make a move to the German club.
