Barcelona have reportedly made an approach to sign Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo this summer.
Having left City on loan back in January to end the previous season with Bayern Munich, it was recently reported that the right-back will be leaving the Manchester club this summer.
Now, a fresh update has emerged regarding one club’s interest in signing the City outcast.
Barcelona make Cancelo approach

In a recent Twitter post, journalist Rudy Galetti said this on the situation.
He said: “#Barcelona, first approach happened for Joao #Cancelo, both on player side and on #ManCity side.
“#MCFC‘s aim is to let him go as soon as possible. A new round of talks will take place soon, to go deeper in the discussions.”
Since arriving at City back in 2019 from Juventus in a deal worth an overall reported fee of £60m, the Portuguese international, the defender has gone on to make 154 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions, scoring nine goals, supplying 22 assists and winning three Premier League titles.

Bearing in mind how it was reported that Cancelo left the Etihad Stadium in January after becoming unhappy with his playing time around that period, it’s not surprising to hear that the 28-year-old isn’t likely to be playing for City again.
In fact, Pep Guardiola recently shared how necessary it was for the defender to leave the club in January, so much so that they would have even sold him to Manchester United.
This makes it easy to see why Galetti has claimed that the treble winners aren’t likely to stand in the way of a potential exit for the player during the current summer transfer window.
With all of that in mind, it seems that if Barcelona make a suitable offer for Cancelo this summer, he’ll likely be waving goodbye to City once and for all.
