Manchester City have seen multiple players make moves in and out of the club over recent years.

Specifically, many names have came and left the club either on loans, permanent deals or as free agents

Despite the squad changes that have taken place over previous seasons, Pep Guardiola’s side have stayed dominant in terms of the amount of Premier League trophies they’ve picked up.

In fact, the Blues became the first side to win four consecutive league titles last season.

With only a handful of days left until the latest summer transfer window closes, a pundit has made a claim about one piece of transfer business City could look to be completing in the near future.

Danny Murphy praises Man City’s move for Ilkay Gundogan

After it was reported by Fabrizio Romano that City have agreed a deal to sign Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer from Barcelona, Danny Murphy had this to say about it on talkSPORT (21/8 11:43).

He said: “If he’s been frozen out at Barcelona then where do you want to go? You want to go to a club that can win the biggest trophies.

“So, he’s going back where he’s loved. It wasn’t Pep or the club that wanted him gone in the first place.

“So, he’d be welcomed back with open arms and he’s a hell of a player. So I think it works.”

Gundogan will become a key figure for City again

After bringing an end to his seven-year spell at the Etihad Stadium last summer, the midfielder joined Barcelona as a free agent on a three-year deal.

In his first and seemingly last season at the Spanish club, Gundogan started 45 of the 51 games he appeared in across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing 14 assists along the way.

This shows that the 33-year-old still has what it takes to be a prominent and important player for a top European side.

With the vast experience he has of playing for City and Guardiola, it’s easy to see why Murphy thinks this is a move that makes sense for the club and player.
