Manchester City are in the spotlight once again after the Premier League moved to punish Everton and Nottingham Forest for financial breaches.
A number of football fans have delved into a strong case of whataboutism as Manchester City continue to be under investigation for 115 charges of financial breaches, while Everton have already been docked ten points and face a further six being taken away.
So, why are Manchester City yet to be punished while Everton and Nottingham Forest feel the wrath of the Premier League? Let’s take a look…
Why Manchester City case is taking longer to examine
Well, those who complain about Manchester City – while Everton and Nottingham Forest face points being taken away – simply have no understanding of just how complex this case is.
Matt Slater of The Athletic has now explained the differences between the situations when speaking on The Athletic Football Podcast.

The Athletic’s senior football news reporter said: “This is massive. This is massive for the Premier League, pretty big for the UK. This is not a simple case. I still sometimes think that I’m quite surprised the Premier League have even done this.
“They’ve put the charges in, they’ve spent a fortune on this, fighting this for years, and there is a way to go yet. That is why the two examples – your straightforward PSR (Payment Systems Regulator) cases, your FFP (Financial Fair Play) cases – and what Manchester City are charged with, totally different. It will take as long as it takes.”
When Manchester City hearing is expected to begin
The Daily Mail believe Manchester City’s hearing will begin in Autumn of this year.

One charge of financial breaches takes a while to examine – let alone 115.
Therefore, those who point the finger at Manchester City when Everton and Nottingham Forest are mentioned needn’t bother – the situations are simply incomparable.
