Pep Guardiola has just become the first manager ever to win the treble with two different clubs, and he’s undoubtedly one of the greatest managers of all-time.
Of course, those one the other side of Manchester would argue that their former boss, Alex Ferguson, is the greatest gaffer of all-time, but according to Robbie Savage, speaking on BBC Radio Five Live 606 Guardiola would win more trophies than Ferguson did if he were to stay at Manchester City for 26 years.
Seven years into his spell at City, Guardiola has already won 12 major trophies, and if he were to continue that rate for another two decades, he’d overtake Fergie.
Guardiola would win more than Ferguson
Savage made a claim about Guardiola and the former Manchester United manager.
“Robbie said earlier this season that Erik Ten Hag was the best manager in the world,” Sutton noted.
“I said that earlier this season, and I take it back, Pep Guardiola is the Manager of the Season. I’m with you, Pep Guardiola, if he stays for as long as Alex Ferguson managed Manchester United, he would win more trophies, that’s a fact. Fact,” Savage said.
Dominant
The Guardiola vs Ferguson debate will go on until the end of time, and while longevity is one thing, the dominance on show from Guardiola’s side can’t be questioned.
Two trebles, a 100-point season, the longest winning run in Premier League history, and potentially an unparalleled run of four titles in a row if they win the league next season, you can’t argue the fact that Guardiola’s City are more dominant than Ferguson’s United ever were.
This is a debate that will rumble on and on, but with each passing season, Guardiola’s claim to be the greatest manager in English football history only grows stronger.
