‘That’s the one thing’… Ally McCoist has now spotted one glaring weakness about Manchester City this season

Ally McCoist says the defensive frailties Manchester City have shown this season is their only major flaw.

Pep Guardiola’s men have conceded 25 goals in 22 Premier League games this season, while only keeping one clean sheet in their last 11 fixtures.

Even in the Champions League so far, the Sky Blues have only kept one clean sheet in their six outings.

Ally McCoist says the Manchester City defence is their weakness this season

In their latest 3-1 victory against Brentford as well, City managed to concede quite a poor goal as they failed to contend with Mark Flekken’s goal kick, leaving Neil Maupay clean through on goal with Ederson Moraes to put the hosts into the lead at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Against Burnley as well, the treble-winners shipped a late goal to David Datro Fofana after being relatively comfortable at the back for most of the game.

Now, Ally McCoist believes Manchester City possess a weakness at the back, which is their biggest and only flaw so far.

“That’s the one thing I would say about City. I thought they were brilliant. Phil Foden in particular was just a different level. Tremendous performance. Brilliant to watch. But they do give you chances.”

“They have that much confidence in their own ability they will outscore you”, he said on talkSPORT.

Pep Guardiola surely has a plan in place to fix the Manchester City defence

Ally McCoist raises a fair point and considering Manchester City are in the business end of the season, it is time for them to tighten up at the back.

Being the perfectionist Pep Guardiola is, it would not emerge as a surprise if he is working behind-the-scenes to fix City’s defence, as was the case last season.

After the World Cup, Guardiola’s side became impregnable at the back and with teams looking to beat his team in the Premier League and the Champions League, another masterplan from him would be a huge help for this group’s goal of making more history.

Especially in Europe, teams like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Arsenal in particular could punish Manchester City’s leaky defence if they manage to advance past the last 16.
