“The bench awaits”: National media outlet now highlight £8m Man City loanee’s struggles away from the Etihad

Maximo Perrone is not having the best of times on loan from Manchester City at Las Palmas.

The 20-year-old’s struggles have now been highlighted by AS in Spain.

So, what is the situation involving Maximo Perrone? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, Manchester City decided to send the Argentine on loan to Las Palmas back on Wednesday 23rd August in an attempt to get the South American some much-needed game time.

However, Perrone – despite his exceptional talent – has hardly featured for Las Palmas.

The Argentina Under-20 international has only made one start in La Liga since moving to Spain, with his other five appearances all coming as a substitute.

In total, Perrone has been afforded just 151 minutes of action in La Liga across those six outings, which equates to just 25.2 minutes of action per game.

Writing about his bleak situation, Spanish news outlet AS put: “At the moment there have hardly been any glimpses of the Argentine footballer. His role is, for the moment, testimonial.

“Those flashes that Perrone can offer can be seen in his 88% of good passes (140 out of 159) and in his 16 ball recoveries, or in another striking 72% of duels won (18 of 25).

“Except for a last minute surprise, the bench awaits him again against Rayo Vallecano. Once again, luxury substitute. He has to keep working.”

Clearly, Perrone – who Manchester City signed from Velez Sarsfield for £8.2m – has made an impact in the six appearances he has been given by Garcia Pimienta, so it remains to be seen why he is being left to warm the bench.

Manchester City should consider recalling Maximo Perrone

If the situation has not changed by January, Manchester City should think about recalling Perrone to the Etihad Stadium, where the Citizens can find him another loan.

AS do not mention whether Manchester City have a recall option, although there is usually a termination clause involved should a young talent not be receiving sufficient minutes away on loan.

Hopefully, Manchester City did insert a recall option in their agreement with Las Palmas, as the Spanish side are not doing the Argentine’s development much good at all by leaving him out.
