Andy Townsend has said that Manchester City No.1 Ederson Moraes is the best goalkeeper on the ball in the world.
Speaking to talkSPORT, the pundit and commentator gave his two cents on the £35 million (Eurosport) man’s ball-playing ability.
It’s safe to say that Andy Townsend believes Ederson is the crème-de-la-crème when it comes to this side of his game.
Andy Townsend says Ederson is the best ball-playing goalkeeper in the world
Paul Lake once went as far as to claim that the Brazilian international is the greatest the game has ever seen in this respect.
In all fairness, many would put the treble-winner right alongside names like Manuel Neuer and Victor Valdes in possession.
Now, Andy Townsend has said that Manchester City fans must feel at ease when Ederson is on the ball as he is the absolute best when it comes to this side of his skillset.

“Certainly, the only team in the Premier League whose fans when they watch their goalkeeper and they watch their centre-halves, and full-backs knocking it to each other sometimes within their own six-yard box…probably the only ones that don’t panic are probably the City fans.”
Andy Townsend went on to crown Ederson as the best in the world with the ball at his feet, saying, “Because they’ve seen it so often and their goalie is the best I think with the ball at his feet.”
“Isn’t he? He’s incredible. They’re probably the only fans watching it, half-enjoying it, smiling thinking, ‘look they’re trying to chase us. They’re coming after us.’
Ederson is easily the best in the world
Andy Townsend is spot on and Ederson even has a claim for being the best goalkeeper in possession in the history of football.
Certainly in world football currently, while names like Alisson Becker, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Mike Maignan are all brilliant on the ball, the Manchester City shotstopper is simply on another level.
Ederson’s magnificence with the ball at his feet is a vital reason behind why Pep Guardiola’s system works to the level it does.
