Callum Wilson has said that Manchester City star Phil Foden has the best first touch he’s ever seen.

The two players recently faced off against each other as City beat Newcastle United 1-0 in the Premier League earlier this month and have both been included in the latest England squad for the upcoming international break.

With Foden playing a big part in City’s win over the Magpies by providing the assist for Julian Alvarez’s winning goal, the Newcastle striker has highlighted one specific part of the 23-year-old’s talent he is particularly impressed by.

Speaking on a recent edition of The Footballer’s Football Podcast, Wilson had this to say when asked about which player has the best first touch out of everyone he has played with in his career.

He said: “I know Phil Foden really well. I’ve trained with Phil and his touch is immaculate. I’d say it’s the best I’ve seen as a player.”

This is the first time the 23-year-old has been hailed for his first touch, as Jermaine Jenas pointed out during City’s Champions League match against Marseille back in 2020 how impressive Foden is when it comes to controlling the ball from the air.

Even though 11 players had more touches of the ball across the previous Premier League campaign than Foden (1324) at City, he only miscontrolled the ball 34 times in total, fewer than the likes of Jack Grealish (36), Kevin De Bruyne (42) and Riyad Mahrez (35).

With Wilson hailing the City star for his ability on the ball and first touch, it’s nice to hear another top-flight player sharing his praise for Foden.
